Special or Unique Abilities: the ruling Astarian class is descended from a Borg rebel, so over time the whole population (after Borg attack, only 300) will develop immunity to the Borg assimilation technology.
Special or Unique Skills: native Astarians are, when trained, especially skilled in the art of mind manipulation.
Size: slightly taller and thinner than an average human.
Traits Common to the Species: native Astarians have high intellects, but are naturally quite withdrawn, often relying on mind manipulation to protect themselves. Combat is rare, but usually fought viciously as a matter of pride. Astarians have pale skin, generally human features, but higher cheekbones.
Story Notes: the Astarians fit into Ep 1.2, Resistance is not Futile. They are the race immune to Borg assimilation, whom a sample of is desired. They will be useful where a secretive but quietly powerful race is needed, as their Psi abilities are strong.
Description: Astarians are motivated by a desire to be respected and acknowledged among their own kind; they care little for off-worlders. Federation membership is only tolerated to ensure protection from more hostile races. There is no widespread religion on Astar. One world Government represents the 13 major continents. Males and females are of roughly equal status in society, which is based around respect for successful elders.
